Emissions Testing

Emissions Testing

Take your car to be tested, if it fails bring it to us for diagnosis and repair – we’ll even save you time by putting the car through the test again for you!

Serious respiratory problems have been an ever-growing concern over the last several decades. All over the world millions of people suffer from health issues such as asthma, respiratory allergies, emphysema, pneumonia, and cardiopulmonary diseases.

Many of these problems are caused by dangerous pollutants in the air, and while air pollution is hardly a new problem it has gotten progressively worse in many parts of the world as we progress through the modern age.

Automobile emissions are hardly the only sources of air pollution in the world, but they are a very common source. Cars and trucks are everywhere, and it sometimes seems like practically everyone owns and drives one. Automobiles of course are powered by combustion engines that burn fossil fuels, which are the largest contributors to air pollution in the world.

It is for this reason the Environmental Protection Agency has required emissions testing for all vehicles since 2003. These laws were further revised in 2007 to be even more rigid. These restrictions have so far proven to be beneficial and effective in improving air quality throughout the country.

All vehicles should undergo emissions testing regularly. While cars and trucks are much cleaner and less polluting than they were int the 1950s and 1960s, the fact is that there are many more cars on the road than there were back then. The sheer number of cars alone has led to an increase of air pollution, and cars rarely perform as well on the road as they do in prototype tests.

This is especially true of older cars that have been poorly maintained, although this has less to do with age and more to do with maintenance. A properly maintained ten year-old car can be cleaner than a poorly maintained five year-old car. This also means that it is actually relatively easy to keep a car running cleanly.

Just as a car requires regular oil changes and break pad replacement, testing to make sure that a car is running cleanly can and should be performed on a regular basis. More than 30 states currently have auto inspection and maintenance programs that monitor the amount of pollutants in vehicle exhaust. These states have standards that vehicles must adhere to. Most vehicles will pass the appropriate tests, and those that won’t can usually pass the test a second time after simple maintenance is performed.

So where do you get your vehicle’s emissions tested? You need to go to a Gordon Darby location situated throughout the valley, they will do the testing, if you fail, come to us and we’ll do the  diagnosis and repairs and then get it re-tested for you so we’re sure our repairs are correct. This saves you time and ensures your car passes the test.
